About this development
The Danakil Project in Ethiopia consists of an exploration license covering the northern strike of the Musley deposit and, significantly, is mineralized on both the western and eastern margins of the basin. Ethiopia has revised its mining laws to promote the development of natural resource projects. Benefits of the project's location include low labour costs and a shorter permitting process than at projects operated by many peer companies in other regions, with relative close proximity to the major Port of Djibouti and within close shipping of major markets and potash consumers. Danakil encompasses an established large-tonnage, high grade, shallow potash deposit, with sylvinite horizons as shallow as 45m deep. The Danakil Project will have one of the lowest capital intensity per annual tonne of production of any major potash project in the world. Development Capital for Phase 1 is estimated at $2.58 billion.
