About this development
Development of the first-ever underground diamond operation in Botswana at Jwaneng mine. They plan to sink an exploratory shaft to 1 000m as part of the study to mine underground. Jwaneng's openpit is at a depth of 350m and will ultimately go to 650m. Thereafter, underground mining would ensue. An 8-m diameter exploratory shaft will be sunk 1,5 km northwest of the open pit. Debswana will invest 24 billion pula ($3.7 billion) to extend the life of its Jwaneng mine. The estimated total project value is $3 billion over the next 15 years.
