About this development
Construction of a commuter rail service between Nairobi Central Station and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya, East Africa. The scope of works also includes a terminal railway station and supply of 5 diesel electric multiple units. The project also includes the repairs and rehabilitation of Nairobi Central Station (Phase II). it will involve construction of nine transport corridors whose trains will pick commuters from several estates and drop them at the Nairobi Railway Station in the Central Business District (CBD). The corridors to be covered include Nairobi Railway Station (NRS)-Ruiru-Thika, NRS-Juja Road-Kangundo, NRS-Jomo Kenyatta Airport-Athi River, NRS-Langata Road-Karen, NRS-Upper Hill-Ngong, NRS-Kabete-Kikuyu, NRS-Gigiri-Limuru and Outer Ring Road in city’s Eastlands area. The transport network is part of the Nairobi commuter rail project that is to cost Sh14 billion.
