About this development
The raising of the Clanwilliam Dam located on the Olifants River by up to 13m to provide an additional 10 000 000m³ of water a year in the Western Cape. The raising of the dam value could exceed R1 billion. (Drilling & blasting foundation R 800 241 033.00, drilling & grouting foundation R 304 823 302.00, concrete surface preparation R60 784 080.40.) The dam was originally built in 1935, and was raised in the 1960s by adding 13 crest gates. The height of the dam wall is currently 43m and the nett storage capacity of is 122 000 000m³ a year. During the raising of the wall the scope of works could include the realignment of a portion of the N7 National road between km 89.32 and km 95.92, approximately 2 700m in length and raising of a portion of the N7 National road between km 68.77 and km 70.22, approximately 1 km in length and the realignment of the gravel access road on the eastern side of the dam to retain maintenance access to the top of the dam wall. The GPS co-ordinates are 32°14'11.4"S 18°55'08.5"E.
