About this development
The Chirundu project consisted of two deposits, namely the Njame and the Gwabe project. The Njame deposit would be developed first, and would consist of an openpit mine and a processing plant. Mining and heap leaching to start at the Gwabe site once Njame has been exhausted. All mining will be from open pits. The Chirundu project had a measured and indicated resource of around 7,4-million pounds of uranium, which would support an initial life-of-mine of between five and six years. The estimated capital costs of the project amount of $68 million, preproduction costs with an additional $21 million required for deferred cost.
