About this development
The project involves the construction and rehabilitation of a rail line that will transport 18 million tons of coal from Mozambique to Malawi. A new 138.5km line from Chikhwawa, in southern Malawi, to meet an existing line in the country's Balaka province will be built. The existing line between NKaya and Nayuchi (98.6km) will also be rehabilitated. Estimated cost : $1 billion.
