Completion of the construction of new Accident and Emergency unit and 200-Bed Ward complex at Central Hospital in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, West Africa. The main structural building for the accident management centre has been completed with a ground floor and one suspended floor slab, the remaining 2 slabs and roofing collapsed during construction. It is intended that on completion, the Medical Emergency Centre will have a ground floor, three suspended for slabs (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and a roof concrete slab. The 200 – bed hospital ward unit already has the ground floor, three suspended floors in place. A U – shaped pedestrian ramp links the accident / emergency block with the 200 – bed block of hospital wards. The accident / emergency block will have a dual emergency entrance, reception outfits, observation and treatment rooms on the ground floor, while upper floors have provisions for wards with 42 beds each, doctors’ offices and administrative offices with an attached penthouse on the roof. The 200 – bed wards block is designed to accommodate wards with about 30 bed spaces, stores, treatment rooms, utility spaces and Nurses bay. Upper floors contain spaces that serve mainly as bed wards to hold a total estimate of 40 beds per floor. Other ancillary spaces of the buildings are to accommodate the I C U department, medical wards, operating rooms, doctors Lounge for both medical and non medical staff.
