About this development
Kumba Iron Ore is to spend R8.5 billion in the development of a new mine in the Northern Cape Province. Kumba's investment will boost iron ore exports. The new Sishen South Mine will be located 80km south of Kumba's existing Sishen Mine in Postmasburg. The new mine is estimated to have a lifespan of 20 years. Production is scheduled to start in 2012, increasing to full capacity by 2013.
