Project overview
About this development
Construction of a hydro-electric plant and expansion of an existing dam at Boschendal Wine Estate, near Franschhoek in the Western Cape. The hydro-electric scheme involves the initial establishment of a gauging weir (already constructed), a slightly larger weir upstream of the gauging weir, a pipeline of approximately 450mm diameter over a distance of approximately 3 kilometers, and a hydro-electrical power generation unit located at the end of the pipeline on the southern bank, which will discharge into an existing farm dam, known as Nomandi. The plant will generate 750 KW of electricity during the rainy season which will feed into a nearby Eskom line. The De Bordje Dam will be increased to hold approximately 300 000m³.
