About this development
Assmang Limited is proposing a greenfields 8,4-million-ton-a-year open-cast iron mining operation on Bruce 544, King 561 and Mokaning 560 farms, approximately 15 km south of Kathu, 35 km north-east of Olifantshoek and 80 km north of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape Province. The proposed mining area falls within two local and district municipalities, the Tsantsabane Local Municipality (nc085), which forms part of the Siyanda District Municipality and the Gamagara Local Municipality (nc01b1), which forms part of the Kgalagadi District Municipality. The footprint of the proposed mining operations will be approximately 9 000 ha. Project value : R4 billion.
