About this development
ICVL are planning to build a proposed 500MW coal-fired thermal power station at Benga in Tete in northern Mozambique. Phase 1 involves the development of a 500 MW coal-fired, mine-mouth power plant. Phase 2 will see the progressive upgrade of the power plant to 2000 MW, depending on the proposed development of new transmission infrastructure. The power station would use much of the thermal coal that is not exported from Benga. Estimated project value: US$1.27 billion.
