Project overview
About this development
Construction of the Bellville Safe Space residential home on Erf 7224, 7225 & 7226 Bellville, 6 Bellevue Road, Bellville, Cape Town, Western Cape. The proposed development involves the relocation of the existing Bellville CBD Safe Space facility from Paint City to a new purpose-built facility. This facility will accommodate approximately 300 to 344 clients from the current site, with additional capacity for a few extra clients, including a separate area for overnight emergency accommodation to meet short-term needs. The development will include the construction of the new facility, outdoor passive recreational space, a staff and delivery access-controlled parking area, and 20 new on-street parking bays to offset the loss of existing public parking. The proposed buildings are positioned as close to the street as possible while respecting the 6.4-meter sewer main servitude corridor. The long edge of the building faces the street, providing a strong street definition and a positive interface with the public realm. The facility is envisioned as a double-storey building, with dormitories located upstairs and on the eastern side downstairs to ensure privacy for clients from the entrance area, where visitors may arrive. Administrative functions, emergency accommodation, sick bays, the female dormitory, and communal areas will be situated downstairs, while the male dormitory is proposed for the upper level. No large-scale kitchen will be included, as food will be prepared off-site. The GPS co-ordinates are 33°54'04.6"S 18°38'08.3"E.
