About this development
The Waterval Phase 4 Project is an ore replacement project which effectively extends the life of Waterval Shaft by approximately 10 years. This will be done by replacing the existing Central Shaft with the proposed West Shaft. The scope of the project is to access the allocated ground for mining and provide the required infrastructure and services to support the mining operations. These services and infrastructure include: An additional decline shaft to the west of the existing Waterval surface infrastructure; Electrical reticulation extending from the existing surface area to the West portal and underground into the workings; Conveyor belt systems underground and to the surface; Supply of service and portable water to the West portal and underground into the workings; Removal and clarification of process water in a closed loop; Compressed air for emergency services; and Maintenance facilities for the mining equipment.
