Bakhresa Flour Mill

Re-generation of the old Union Flour Mill Building and adjoining buildings, located on the corner of Sarnia Road and Fennis Close in Umbilo, Erf 9527 Durban, into a new 750T flour mill in KwaZulu-Natal. Scope of works could include re-utilisation of existing buildings, particularly the old Union Flour Mill Building on Sarnia Road. The existing raw storage silo farm is to be demolished and replaced with new raw storage silos due to the the old silos not being economically viable to either maintain nor operate. At present there are 63 old silos that all require mechanical handling equipment and consume large quantities of electricity. New silos will be larger with approximately 5 in quantity, with modern handling equipment and consume considerably less electricity. The 6 storey brick building on the corner of Sarnia Road and Fennis Close, which was originally built to house finished flour silos, was converted around 2008 into offices and therefore, due to the current structural configuration can no longer house finished product silos. It is therefore proposed that this is demolished and replaced with a new finished product storage facility, comprising silos, within a steel frame and clad building, approximately the same height & footprint as the existing building. Internal works include accommodating the new processing equipment, together with external upgrades to roads, paving, boundary fencing, etc.
