About this development
Construction of the 680 MW Avon open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) project, near Shakaskraal, 45 km north-east of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal. The facility will comprise 4 units (Ansaldo Energia AE94.2 gas turbine and generator), which are intended for peaking power purposes. The plant will be connected to State-owned power utility Eskom’s Avon substation on the KZN coastline. The electricity will be fed into the transmission system at a voltage of 275 kV.
