Project overview
About this development
R37 million investment will fund the development of a raspberry farm and orchard to be known as Amajuba Berries. This will include the construction of a packhouse, farming equipment, irrigation facilities, and a farm dam. This will be South Africa’s biggest raspberry farm, which will be owned by KwaZulu-Natal’s Charlestown community. Amajuba Berries will export 70 percent of its output and expects to sell another 5 percent into the South African market. It will convert the 25 percent balance into processed raspberries for beverages, yoghurt's, cereals, snacks and desserts. The IDC selected berries because they were a high value crop and were in demand internationally. The increase in consumption of healthy food has lifted demand.
