About this development
Eskom is proposing to construct new transmission lines over a total distance of 470km in a number of continuous sections from Alpha substation, in Mpumalanga to the Eros substation, in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal. This will strengthen the transmission network supplying electricity to the Midlands and Southern KwaZulu-Natal. This project will be divided into five phases. Phase 1 will comprise of two 765kV lines from the Alpha substation to the Majuba substation, in Amersfoort, Mpumalanga. Phase 2 will consist of a 765kV line from the Majuba substation to the Venus substation, in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal. Phase 3 will entail the construction of a 765kV line continuing from the Venus substation to the Sigma Sub-station, near Albert Falls, KwaZulu-Natal. Phase 4 will include a 400kV line from the Ariadne substation to the Hector substation. Phase 5 will involve the construction of a 400kV line from the Ariadne substation to the Eros substation, in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal and the expansion and upgrade of the Eros Sub-station near Harding and the Ariadne Sub-station near Pietermaritzburg
