Construction of retail and shopping facilities in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal at its own version of Cape Town's popular V&A Waterfront. The Umhlathuze municipal council is planning to develop a multi million-rand waterfront and marina to boost tourism revenue. The project, which is still in its initial phases, will spread over 100 hectares of land. Areas around Mzingazi Canal Steel Bridge, Alkantstrand and Pelican Island are part of the land to be transformed into luxury apartments, a hotel and a conference centre. This is going to be an enormous project, as they will be building a structure on water. There will also be dredging in some parts of the harbour.
