About this development
Construction of components for the proposed establishment of a battery production and re-cycling factory located in Saldanha Bay, in the Western Cape. The site is located 9km north-east of the Port of Saldanha Bay, west of the R27. The African Battery Factory will consist of the following components: Building for cell production equipment and battery recycling, with a footprint up to 200ha and up to 30m high; control room with offices; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system; warehouses; parking lots, sized for up to 15 000 employees; water pipeline approximately 5km long, supplying water from municipal water network; closed-loop water supply system with treatment systems to efficiently recirculate water; water storage tanks, with an overall water storage capacity up to 100 000 cubic meters; roof-top photovoltaic power plant up to 150MW, for internal consumption; on-site 66kV or 132 lV sub-station; 66kV/132kV power lines, for a connection to Eskom Blouwater distribution substation; high-voltage power lines for the connection to the Eskom grid.
