Project overview
About this development
Anglo Platinum's Rustenburg Section, in the North West Province, is currently mining the UG2 and Merensky Reefs of the western platinum limb. Refrigeration plants, ventilation shafts and main fan systems are continually being installed and commissioned at the Rustenburg Section to ensure sufficient ventilation at the underground sections. Newly added ventilation shafts and refrigeration plants will be installed and commissioned after the completion and approval of the required Environmental Management Programme (EMP) Amendment. Approximately 28 new ventilation shafts along with main fan systems are being planned for the next 25 years for the Waterval, Bleskop, Boschfontein, Brakspruit and Townlands production areas, and one comprehensive EMP Amendment is being undertaken to address all the planned ventilation shafts (upcast and downcast), main fan systems and refrigeration plants. The comprehensive EMP Amendment will also address the cumulative effect of all existing and planned ventilation infrastructure.
