The 120-bed, 4 star hotel will also boast conference space to host up to 450 delegates, a business suite, bar and restaurant, outdoor pool and gym facility.

LIMPOPO – The sod-turning ceremony of the Premier Hotel in Thohoyandou took place on April 22.

MEC for Environmental Affairs, Economic Development and Tourism, Thabo Mokone in his address said the hotel will create tourism and economic spin off for Thohoyandou and its surrounding areas.

“We celebrate the construction of the 120 bed 4 star hotel. We understand that, we have some hotels and lodges in the area, but this development will give Thohoyandou a real town feel. As you know, we need accommodation when we have football matches and conference facilities are also a priority,” said Mokone

It is close to Kruger National Park, which means people can stay over here before visiting the park, and the project will create 420 temporary jobs during construction and after the completion of the hotel, 75 permanent jobs will be created.

Mokone applauded the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) for financing the project.

The head of tourism and services for IDC, Moseketse Mpeta said IDC is a state-owned development financial institution and they provide finance to various sectors.

“We are excited to see the hotel development coming to Thohoyandou. We are the biggest government funding institution in the country, funding black business and also support women owned projects,” said Mpeta.

The operations director at Premier Hotels and Resorts, Richards Bryar said they are excited to be joined by women like Mutanuni Tsakani Masia, the managing director of African Century Group, who is ready to improve Thohoyandou.

“When we were approached by African Century Group, we jumped at the opportunity. We could not have asked for a better partner and more exciting is the fact that the group is local,” said Bryar.

He added the Premier Hotel development is on the north-eastern edge of town and will be a modern building, with a touch of African flair.

With close to 8 697m² of usable space, the hotel will boast conference space to host up to 450 delegates, a business suite, bar and restaurant, outdoor pool and gym facility.

Thulamela Mayor, Sarah Rambuda said the sod-turning ceremony was done at the right time as the municipality is geared towards achieving a city status by 2030.

“It is for this reason that we are here to hand over the site for the development and this is an extraordinary occasion because we are going to fight poverty and unemployment,” said Rambuda.

Rambuda congratulated the directors of Premier Hotels and Resorts for the development they are bringing to the area, which is the economic hub of the Vhembe district.

“It has always been my dream as a business woman and a historically disadvantaged woman to make a meaningful contribution to the economy,” Masia said.

According to Masia, it started many years ago when she decided to leave her corporate job and venture into business.

“It has been through determination and uncompromising work ethic guided by moral values, that I have made it this far. I would like to thank everyone who played a role in my life, most importantly God,” said Masia.

She believes the development of areas like Thohoyandou is possible and business people, need to work together with municipalities in order to ensure that Venda continues to be prosperous.

“We are here today, thanks to the overwhelming confidence IDC has shown in me by investing millions into the project. When we started the process, I never had any doubt that this would succeed,” she added.

Masia said the road was made easy Premier Hotels, who believes in investing in economical meaningful projects. “This project is likely to be one of the biggest in the province and in preparation for this, we assembled the best team to lead the construction. True to our reputation, we subscribe to quality and nothing less,” said Masia.
