The construction is expected to near completion before the end of the year.

The road renewal project in Port Shepstone, which started early this year with the aim of modernising the town, is causing traffic related problems for pedestrians and motorists. Normally pedestrians use pavements to walk, which is an advantage for them to access shops easily.

Meanwhile, constructors are renewing the pavements as they are renewing the road, and now there is a problem.

It has led to pedestrians walking and crossing on the road in a manner that is disturbing drivers.

Drivers are now forced to be aware of pedestrians because they don’t cross at designated crossing places.

These conditions are not safe for both parties – pedestrians can be knocked over a car and it is also not fair for pedestrians to walk on the road (often carrying luggage or parcels) as drivers are forced to reduce speed and drive with caution.

The construction workers are obviously not trying to the lives of pedestrians difficult; they are simply doing their jobs.

The same thing applies to pedestrians, it is not their intention to distract the drivers, they are just in need of pavement space on which to walk.

Construction is expected to be complete in November this year.

In the mean time, safety measures can be implemented to protect pedestrians from being mugged and also to protect drivers from being distracted by pedestrians.
