Upmarket city living in Melrose Arch

The Amdec Group’s latest addition to the leafy suburbs of Johannesburg is One on Whiteley, parthotel, part-residential offering in Melrose Arch. The hotel part is managed by Marriott International Group, and the residential element is managed by The Amdec Group themselves.

A project of epic proportions
A project of enormous magnitude, GEZE was appointed to supply and install fire doors and ducting doors throughout the shared spaces, as well as inter-leading doors within the residential
apartments. The company also supplied and installed their cutting-edge window ventilation and fire extraction systems, and most of the door hardware and ironmongery that the building required.

Forging a direct supplier model
The Amdec Group employed a direct developer to supplier model – one which is changing the way inwhich construction is being managed. By assuming the role of project manager, developers are able to take a firmer grasp of their projects.

Igor Kruger of The Amdec Group describes the benefits of this model:
“We are moving towards this way of working, as it is more direct and shifts responsibility onto the supplier. It works well, provided the supplier remains committed. GEZE was always available when we needed them and sorted out
issues as they arose.”

Tight timelines and going the extra mile
“GEZE did everything possible to support The Amdec Group in finishing the project on track,” comments Cole Briel, GEZE Inland General Manager. “At our busiest we had up to ten carpentry teams on site at one time.”

Igor Kruger notes his appreciation of GEZE’s willingness to go the extra mile: “Kevin and the team went out of their way to work after hours when needed. One of their sub-suppliers caused a major delay due to problematic stock, but GEZE did what they could and managed to solve the problem in
the end.”
“Dealing directly with the developer was a fantastic learning for us,” affirms GEZE’s Cole Briel. “We received and managed changes and requests from The Amdec Group, Marriott International, the architects and the owners. We are very proud to be involved in this ambitious project.”
