The Department of Roads and Transport in Gauteng said it would closely monitor the progress during the construction of the K46 road, also known as William Nicol Drive which connects Fourways and Diepsloot.

Spokesperson in the department, Theo Nkonki said the construction project had been halted a few years ago after the previous contractor had failed to deliver as expected. Since then a new contractor had been appointed to finish the work.

Speaking at a public consultative meeting at Riversands Incubation Hub on December 13, the department’s Mbali Seheri said they would ensure that the main contractor and subcontractors delivered quality work.

“The department has appointed a new contractor to finish the construction project of the K46 road which is set to resume on 10 January 2022… We will closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure that everyone delivers as expected,” he said.

Seheri and members of the community agreed to hold another meeting in the first week of January due to poor attendance of the December gathering.

“We will reconvene this public consultative meeting to afford residents another opportunity to participate in the process. We call on all residents of Ward 94 to attend on the date that will be communicated in due course.”
