Cape Town - Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has released the final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) scoping report for realigning Cape Town International Airport's runway and is calling for public commentary.

Acsa announced in a press release the report has been open for a 21 day public comment period from 11 July until 1 August 2014.

Key concerns raised are an increase in high noise levels for the areas around the airport caused by flight path changes for approaching or departing aircraft.

The draft Scoping Report, compiled by SRK Consulting, the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioners, was previously released for a 40-day comment period in November 2013. This has now produced the final Scoping Report for submission to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) Acsa said.

“Issues and concerns identified in the Scoping Phase will assist in focussing the EIA and will be used to refine the terms of reference for specialist investigations. We strongly urge the public to take the time to review the report and provide their inputs”, said Deidre Davids Communications Manager, Cape Town International Airport.

All interested and affected parties are requested to review the document and make their comments available before 1 August.

Copies of the full report are available at neighbouring community libraries, ACSA and SRK offices or can be downloaded here via www.srk.co.za.

How do I submit commentary?

Acsa has advised interested and affected parties (IAP) to register on the project’s stakeholder database where you can also submit comments on the document.

Comments and requests for registration as a stakeholder must be submitted to SRK in writing along with the DEA reference numbers: 14/12/16/3/3/2/446, name, contact details, and an indication of any direct business, financial, personal or other interest you may have in the application, by 1 August 2014.

All comments must be submitted to Scott Masson at SRK Consulting via the following means: Post: Postnet Suite #206, Private Bag X18, Rondebosch, 7701, Tel: (021) 659 3060, Fax: (021) 685 7105, or Email: smasson@srk.co.za or sjones@srk.co.za
