THE Nairobi government requires more than Sh40billion to rehabilitate roads, Transport chief officer Christine Ogut has said.
Ogutu yesterday said the amount covers the installation of street lights, building of bridges and development of drainage system.
She was a responding to a statement requested by Kahawa West MCA Ngaruiya Chege last Wednesday.
Ogut said the county can only afford to carry out maintenance on the roads.
Speaking to the Star on the phone yesterday, Chege said the county government has broken its pledge to MCAs.
"We were told to prioritise five roads in our wards for repair in 2013, but since then nothing has happened," Ngaruiya said.
He said MCAs have also found that the government did not prioritise any of the roads they proposed be included in the Annuity Programme driven by the national government.
